The Main Torii Gate and Sign, Rebuilt

We are pleased that this month, the main torii gate and shrine sign of Sakataru Shrine, which were destroyed in the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, have been successfully rebuilt. In addition, a new large sacred shimenawa rope has been installed at the torii gate of the otabisho, which had been rebuilt earlier.

On December 7, a ceremony was held to mark the restoration.

Approximately 30 parish representatives and related parties attended the ceremony, during which prayers were offered for the peaceful arrival of the New Year and for the continued restoration and recovery of the local community.

The Collapse of a Torii That Had Stood Unmoved for Decades

The torii gate and shrine marker of our shrine withstood significant seismic intensity during the 2007 Noto Peninsula Earthquake (M6.9) without sustaining damage. That these same structures collapsed in an instant during this recent disaster was a profound shock, as if signaling the end of an era.

Our Deepest Gratitude for Your Kind Support

The reconstruction was made possible through generous donations and crowdfunding contributions from many supporters. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Festival Management Improvement Council for their leadership and coordination throughout this process.

As nearly two years have passed since the earthquake, the landscapes of Noto are gradually regaining a sense of calm, yet they still carry a quiet sense of loss. While we continue to accept the changes to daily life brought by the disaster, we remain committed to preserving what has not changed and passing these enduring values on to the next generation.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported and assisted us.

Under the newly rebuilt torii gate and shrine marker, we will continue to pray for the safety, peace, and recovery of the community.
